Jason Aldean: Wide Open Live & More! 2009 (Blu-ray) 2009 DTS-HD Master Audio

Jason Aldean: Wide Open Live & More captures the rising country music star during his stop at the Coliseum in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 6, 2009. In front of an exuberant sold out crowd, Jason performed a variety of songs, including his #1 hits "Why" and "She's Country".

The songs are very good. "On My Highway", "Laughed Until We Cried", "Why" and especially "Asphalt Cowboy" (with a terrific acoustic version) truly allow Jason to shine - his voice is rich and powerful. Of course, "Relentless" and "Big Green Tractor" are the big ones.

Bonus Track: I Won't Back Down (Blu-ray exclusive)

Presented in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080i "live" transfer, Jason Aldean – Wide Open Live & More arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment.

I quite liked what I saw here – contrast is very good, clarity pleasing and detail on par with some of the best releases Eagle Rock Entertainment have produced. The color-scheme is also good. Reds, yellows, browns, blacks, and whites are convincing. Furthermore, the lighting is simple but effective. There are no shadow issues to report. This being said, the entire concert is filmed with multiple cameras providing a variety of different looks at Jason Aldean, his band and the crowd. All in all, fans of the rising country star will certainly be pleased with how strong this Blu-ray disc looks.

There are three audio tracks on this Blu-ray disc: Music DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Music Dolby Digital 5.1 and LPCM 2.0. I opted for the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track.

Organic is how I would describe the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. During certain songs it almost feels as if one is the in middle of the Coliseum in Knoxville, listening to Jason Aldean and his band. Occasionally, some of the guitar solos tend to pop up while the drums and bass tend to back off a bit. The bass is mostly strong, the rear channels used intelligently and the high frequencies not overdone. The vocals are crisp. Generally speaking, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track captures the spirit of the show very well.
